1. How do you plan to use the assessment results to improve student learning?
This assessment is very useful because if a student is not able to identify a topic sentence in an example, then it is going to be hard for them to write their own. Based on the results from this formative assessment, I will be able to meet with students on the area they are struggling in.
2. How will the results influence your instructional design and delivery?
The assessment allows me to see the specific area the student is struggling in. Some students did really well with identifying a good topic sentence for passage but struggled with identifying good supporting details. I am able to create small groups from this assessment to target my instruction for specific groups to benefit the student the best I can.
3. How will you monitor each student’s progress towards their goals and adjust instruction?
With this data, the student is able to see where personal growth is needed. For students who were below or well below typical, I will allow them to retake the assessment one grade level below to see how their score increases. This will allow me to see how large their gap really is. Once the student is able to master the grade level below, they will take a another topic sentence assessment on grade level. I will scaffold their learning to work on closing any gaps that may exist. By working on identifying the parts of an expository passage, it will help them learn how to successfully write their own.
