1. How do you plan to use the assessment results to improve student learning?
The Spring Benchmark Composition is a great assessment to track where each student is at individually, and it will allow me to see how much progress each student is really making. I am checking to see if they actually answer the prompt using a topic sentence somewhere in the introduction. The next thing I am checking is to see if the body paragraphs support the topic sentence and provide in depth support of their topic. I am developing a writing plan for each student to make sure they know what they need to focus on to move them to the next level in writing.
2. How will the results influence your instructional design and delivery?
My instructional design is different for each student. Depending on how they did on their Spring Benchmark Composition will determine their specific goals. For example, if there is a group of students who did not even answer the prompt in their composition, then I will meet with them and talk about how we successfully answer the prompt with a topic sentence. For students who answered the prompt but the details did not support their topic sentence, we will go back to their planning page and talk about how to better organize our thoughts to make sure we support our topic.
3. How will you monitor each student’s progress towards their goals and adjust instruction?
I will continue to monitor and meet with students to see how they are doing on their individualized goals.
